Northville: A Charming Michigan Town With a Strong Sense of Community

There is just something decidedly warm and inviting about the town of Northville Michigan and its neighboring community of Northville Township.

From its rich history to its darling downtown area, its classic architecture to its friendly neighbors, this is the kind of town where it's easy to live here forever.

Let's Take a Brief Look at Northville's History

This community was originally settled in 1825, although it wasn't incorporated as a village until 1867.  It finally became a city in 1955. The community was named such because it was located north of Plymouth.

Although the community was originally one of two communities within Plymouth Township, Northville Township ultimately split off to form its own township in 1898.

The community continued to grow over the years, particularly thanks to John Miller's mill, which was the first one of its kind in Plymouth Township.

Then, sometime between 1825 and 1828, the Mill Race Historic Village was located.  This development has a lot of prominence in the community today because it is now home to:

  • The New School Church, formerly the Northville District Library
  • The Wash Oak School
  • The Hunter House, a Greek Revival architecture house built in 1849
  • The Yerkes House, a Victorian architecture house built in 1868
  • The Cady Inn, moved to the village in 1987, built in 1832, and a stop on the Underground Railroad
  • And so much more!
