Unparalleled Quality of Life in Novi, MI

Novi is 25 miles northwest of Detroit and 25 miles northeast of Ann Arbor in the southwestern part of Oakland County. The City boasts the motto: “Quality of life… is the way of life.” Here, residents enjoy quality schools, cultural diversity, preservation of nature, and every amenity imaginable.

There are many interesting stories about how Novi got its name; however, one commonly accepted explanation is that it was the sixth township of the county – and so “No. VI” became Novi.

A Novi Township Anomaly

You might be surprised to learn that a 60-acre patch of land in Novi remains unincorporated. This 150-person stretch of land, located in the southern part of the city, has its own governance. Most of the Township’s services are contracted by the City of Novi, so it is difficult to tell this Township from the rest of the city. Although Novi has a deep-rooted history, it was only just incorporated in 1969 and since then has become a center of business and recreational activity. Novi offers home styles for every individual or family – from contemporary condominiums to luxurious estate homes, and everything in between.

Exceptional Michigan Schools and Growth

In addition to numerous nearby private schools, Novi’s children attend extremely highly regarded public schools. Districts include the following: Novi Community Schools District, Northville Public Schools, Walled Lake Schools, and South Lyon Community Schools. Novi is also only minutes away from a number of public charter schools.

Novi is one of Michigan’s fastest growing cities. The city’s growth has led to many increases in commercial and industrial developments. International and local businesses of all size call Novi home, including ITC Transmission, Novi Energy, and Patrick Energy Services. And, did you know Novi has made Money magazine's the Top 100 Best Places to Live several times? When you visit the area, it's easy to see why.

Shopping, Arts, and Events

With its convenient location at the intersection of I-96, I-275, M-14, and I-696, Novi is the home of Twelve Oaks Mall and Fountain Walk, a lovely outdoor shopping and entertainment complex. In addition, Novi residents enjoy numerous other benefits, including:

  • 10 miles of trails at Lakeshore Park on the shores of Walled Lake

  • Sugarloaf Art Fair
  • Novi Civic Center and Novi Public Library
